william lennon & co.

Searching on the interweb for tackety boots for the boy... Oor Wullie style, and stumbled on this English firm, William Lennon & Co.. The family business was established in 1899 to service the then burgeoning quarrying and mining industries of the Peak District in England. They still make many traditional styles of boot (popular for instance in WWI reenactments), with hobnailed (or tackety as they say in Scotland) versions available. Sidenote: Often advertisements for highland dances would declare "nae tackety boots" or similar, to save the town hall floor from a beating. Don't know any more about these cobblers but nice to look at. Run in the $200 area. Data mining below (only adult sizing).

Tug of War Boots. [awesome -ed.] Adapted version of Shepherds Boot with a couple of modifications for tug of war purposes. The facings (where the laces fasten) are wider so they can be pulled tighter, and the heel stiffeners are double reinforced for extra strength. The uppers are made from reverse tanned waxed kip butt leather and the soles are triple thickness leather. They are supplied either with plain leather, flat nailed or treble hobbed soles. The heels are steel ring tip (horseshoe) style. Some remove the ring tip and replace it with a flat plate. Made to order.

Hill Boots. Traditional British made outdoor country footwear. Fully sprung shepherds boots, hill boots or fell boots (depending on your geographical location) with long tabbed lace-to-toe design. Made with reverse tanned waxed kip butt leather. Brass screwed and stitched construction. Leather insole and triple thickness leather sole. Available, either with plain sole, flat (cutlan) nailed, or hob nailed (tackets or tacketty boots) with treble hobs and toe plates. Ring tip (horseshoe) type heels fitted on all. Made to order.

Hob Nailed Boots. Traditional Derby style hob nailed boots with 7 eyelet 6.5 inch upper made from mahogany brown waxy full grain leather. Brass screwed and stitched construction incorporating a leather insole, and a heavy duty double leather sole. Leather ring tip (horseshoe) stack heel. Manufactured in the Derbyshire Peak District factory.

Traditional hand made Hill Shoe. [#want] Fully sprung toe, bellows type tongue with overlap. Made from brown waxy full grain leather. Leather insole and triple thickness leather sole which can be left plain or hob nailed with toe plates. Made in the Derbyshire Peak District factory. Also available with Vibram sole.
