My buddy Skye Chalmers took his photo-essay Sending Milk (about dairy farming within the Cabot Cooperative) onto Vermont television this morning. You can hear a bit more from him about his hopes for the book (get curious!) and the crux of the project (pay respect to the farmers themselves). I am over the moon for the guy and am trying to get him to Boston for a lecture and slideshow; details and date forthcoming. Like how he is showing more leg than the presenter .... #shortshorts

orvis fly fishing app -snap review

Flies section is very thorough and you can search by name, region, or type. Or browse. Has description of the flies that for the most part are the materials to tie it but they don't go into any info on tying the fly. This would be an excellent addition, instead they have a "buy" symbol.

Knots; this is very cool and provides animated illustrations on tying a lot of different knots. Casting; some good tips and videos.

They have fishing reports but you need your phone to be online to use them. I might not fish by these reports though. I guess I would just question their validity and conditions can change quickly. Like everything, if it is embraced and updated regularly it could be helpful. I see it working for migratory fish liked Stripers and Steelhead much better than say Trout rivers. Trout stream hotspots are often more guarded than the migratory fishes.
OK, back to me. Reading the blurb online, one nice feature seems to be a link to fishing license info for every state, plus all of their regulations. Plus, I got through this whole thing w/o saying "i'm hooked on this" or similar... You can read more reviews and purchase the $14.99 app via iTunes.

stone work -ogden&chalmers
My buddy Skye has the touch to build great rock fencing / dry stone walls. If you have ever been by the Northshire Bookstore in Manchester, VT (as above, that wall is about chest high) you can see some of his handiwork. All these photos are from projects eventually completed by Ogden&Chalmers.

peter miller
Some other day I'll post about the late Fred Tuttle (of Tunbridge VT, star of Man with a Plan) but I always come back to this photo by VT photographer Peter Miller. This is Fred infront of the family barn, holding a photo of his father Joe holding a photo of his own father Fred... you follow. If your grandpa is still around, take the 5 minutes to get a good picture and you can line up something like this... I missed my chance.Peter Miller is perhaps most famous for his (now 20 year old book) Vermont People. Lots of fantastic stark images like the below at his site.

This stuff is right in my wheelhouse but full disclosure, he is the uncle of an old old buddy of mine (talking pre-K) Skye Chalmers, bit of a shooter himself (ouch...)

that rehearsal dinner look -vt edition

When a wedding rehearsal dinner is outdoors in central Vermont, even if it is summer, the game is all changed. Make that a pig roast and you had better come dressed to play.
Gloves: Kinco. Love these. Inexpensive as hell and essential for turning the spit.
Vest: Penfield x Stussy. Hickory striped... bosh.
The striped rugby is a stone cold classic. To get gritty cut the collar off, just above the seam... turns it into sort of a sweatshirt.
Old Levis, turned up. Handkerchief. Docksiders. No socks. Maybe should bring some marled wool socks in case the temp really dips, or the bugs come out...
Belt: Used to wear a thick belt and buckle all the time but recently have liked the thinner belts... this undyed Billykirk is simple and no doubt ages well.
Bring a bunch of leeks, split lengthwise, soaked in some kind of oil/herbs to throw on the grill. Big hit. Eat your greens.
Secret weapon (besides mixing Long Trail kegs and fireworks) is sourcing a Polaroid camera and film, from a former Polaroid executive. Cannot wait to bust that out. Congrats Skye and Tina... See you soon.
[Update. Damn, saw these too late. Vans Authentic Gingham via Selectism. V nice. And Hanes x Deluxe insanity quality vnecks via New Dandyism.]
