10E1995: Whole Larder Love - the book
Have been waiting for this book to drop for a while and whipping through the preview/galley brings a huge smile. If you have been following Rohan Anderson's blog WholeLarderLove (which captures the ingredients, the gear, the rural surroundings, and finished dishes perfect for foodies, farmers, hunters, gardeners, even urbanites looking to inject their lives with a little rural romance - to paraphrase the official blurb) you will recognize the tone of the writing but also be surprised and delighted that almost all of the photos are new to the print publication. The page on chili-oil stopped me in my tracks. Genius. Not sure why I'd not done this before. Will now though. A few pages of "gear" scattered around to geek out on, and subtle peeks of tartan linings and brown duck canvas. Our friend Christine Mitchell has a fantastic game/fish/veg illustration inside the front cover but I'll leave that a surprise...
One more nugget. Rohan intends on travelling to the US to promote the book in late October (?) so watch this space for news on that. A certain Somerville library might be holding an author reading...

New album from local duo [dont try and categorize them -ed.] Flightless Buttress will be released next week. The first single Tobin availalable to download now but also check out Dulcimer Part I and II
Then on July 29, album release at The Burren in Davis Square.

10E1992: 4th of July in a small VT town
This particular town in VT has mandated dirt roads; to keep the taxes low and the tourists out... the open musical parade has been going over 30 years with some of the same participants.

The owner of this ratted out pickup may look like a rougher version of Elliot Gould midway through MASH but he also provided Hendricks martins w/ olives. And then cooked up steamers at the picnic that followed... #wellplayed #notforsale Split seat Toyota below was mint.

This hand-cranked ice cream maker had been used in this valley for almost 100 years. I used it as a kid at summer camp, friends have had it at their weddings, now our boys crank it too. Lot of salt dumped onto the ice to speed up melting and so draw heat away from the strawberry/cream mix inside. I think that is the physics... ??
