battle -monkey boots

The "original" was a remake of a Czech army boot apparently, but the maroon leather and yellow laces were unmistakable in the 80's. Never saw the Doc Marten version till today. Nae bad, but the original beats it on price and fugly factor hands down.

llbean signature collection -from her perspective

Head to sister-site (literally) ApothecaryFox to hear about this upcoming venture for LLBean - from the ladies perspective. And contrary to the promo shots I am assured it is not all about holding hands...
"For some, this must feel a little like messing with their Granny’s famous apple pie recipe. Well I say, move over Grandma, change is good!

...this is a deep breath of clean Maine air that is sure to establish L.L.Bean with a younger generation who have missed out for far too long... there's a new guy in town and his name is L.L.Bean." -via ApothecaryFox

universal works

From their blurb; "It's about good honest menswear... There is no great vision or message, no target markets, just garments for everyone..." That speaks to me as the literal definition of their name... Universal Works. Not making a fuss, just ticking all the boxes.

Head man David Keyte had released images from their S/S 2010 already but Oi Polloi has more (knit work jacket #cosign, more madras, and nice work shirts). This is about as close to a scoop as I get... Sucker for chambray, so that blazer might be a way to replace my blanket_lined_denims in summertime.

bookshelf -lightship

Just found Brian Floca's Lightship, perfect for boat (lighthouse, submarine, squid, Titanic, octopus, tugboat, iceberg, storm...) obsessed kids.

The author/illustrator recreates a slice of history with this informative description of the time and (imaginary)crew of the Ambrose, a now retired lightship (all lightships now retired, since 1980-odd I believe.)

The drawings in Lightship are based largely on LV-87, also known as the Ambrose lightship, currently docked at the South Street Seaport Museum in New York City. -via BrianFloca

danny bhoy

The brother of a good friend, Danny is big in Australia... true story. Have posted his stuff before; this new dvd is probably the cleanest you will see him. Great slow-burn stuff.
